Festival International des Films sur l'Art, October-November 2016
Post-screening lecture and public discussion, Montreal

As part of the cinematographic initiative Découvertes du Film sur l’Art presented by the FIFA, in collaboration with the Conseil des arts de Montréal en tournée, a series of lectures and discussions propose a study of semiotics, iconography and monumentality in two majors historical works: the Statue of Liberty in New York and the Hagia Sophia Basilica in Istanbul. Following the presentation of a documentary, these conversation workshops focus on the migration of meaningful signs and symbols across time and places, with references made to contemporary political situations. Structural and ornamental cultures in both case studies emerge as fertile ground for a discussion that contextualizes the work, while being compared to their current digital versions. Public reactions are encouraged by a range of questions specifically linked to the movie content and editing, as well as questions that refer to popular Quebecois or Canadian architectural examples.
